Roan ("Roan," "we," "us") is an animal-care and community app operated by MLR Creations. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using Roan, you agree to this policy.

Who can use Roan

You must be at least 16 years old to create a Roan account. If you are under 18, you may use Roan only with the permission and supervision of a parent or guardian. Roan is not intended for and may not be used by children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 16, we will delete it.

Information we collect

Account information — the email address, password, name or username, and date of birth (or age) you provide when you sign up.
Profile information — anything you add to your profile, such as a bio, photo, location, and the animals you keep.
Animal & barn records — the health, vaccine, farrier, vet, training, ride, and care information you log for your animals.
Content you create — posts, photos, videos, comments, and direct messages you send through Roan.
Usage & device data — basic technical information such as device type, browser, and app activity, used to operate and improve the service.
Payment information — if you subscribe, your payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number; we only receive a token and limited details (such as the last four digits and subscription status) needed to manage your subscription.

How we use your information

To provide and operate Roan — your account, your animal records, the social feed, messaging, reminders, and AI features.
To send you reminders and important service notices (for example, vaccine or farrier due dates you've set).
To process subscriptions and payments.
To keep Roan safe — preventing abuse, enforcing our rules, and protecting users.
To improve and develop new features.

How information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as needed to run the service:

Other users — content you choose to post publicly (profile, posts, shared animals) is visible to other users. Direct messages are visible to the people in the conversation. Your private animal and health records are not shared unless you choose to share them.
Service providers we rely on to operate Roan, including Supabase (database, authentication, storage), Stripe (payments), Netlify (website hosting), Anthropic (the AI assistant features), and an email provider for notifications. These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms.
Legal reasons — if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Roan, our users, or others.
Business transfers — if Roan is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

Cookies & local storage

Roan uses your browser's local storage to keep you signed in and to cache your data so the app works quickly and offline. The website may use minimal cookies or analytics necessary to operate and understand traffic. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your content or your account at any time from within the app, or by emailing privacy@joinroan.com. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except where we must keep it to meet legal, accounting, or security obligations.

Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Residents of the EU/UK (GDPR / UK GDPR) and California (CCPA/CPRA) have specific rights, including the right to access and delete data and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. To exercise any of these, email privacy@joinroan.com and we'll respond within the time required by law.

Security

We protect your information using industry-standard measures: encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encryption at rest for our database and storage, row-level access controls so users can only reach their own data, and payment handling kept off our servers via Stripe. No system is 100% secure, but we work continuously to protect your information and will notify affected users and authorities as required if a breach occurs.

International data transfers

Roan is operated by a business based in the United Kingdom and serves users in the United States and elsewhere. Your information may be stored and processed in the United States, the European Union, or other countries where our service providers operate. We take steps to ensure your information is protected wherever it is processed.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of Roan after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
